One door closing leads to opening of doors at 4 Lynn’s Boutique

4 Lynn’s Boutique, located on 905 N. Madison Boulevard in Roxboro recently celebrated their four year anniversary.

The family-owned business, run by Sharon Kendrick, came to be in 2012 after Kendrick was diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis. She formerly worked in the healthcare field for 25 years, but when she was diagnosed, she knew that she would not be able to perform the hands-on job sufficiently.

Out of work and unsure about the future, her husband, Tracey, encouraged her to open up her own business and begin working in an industry she really loved – fashion.
“I was hesitant at first to open up my own business because my dad had his own and I knew it was hard work. I never imagined I’d be doing what I’m doing now,” Kendrick said.

She continued, “I have always stressed to my two sons that if you truly love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. This is not a job to me -- it’s playing dress-up with my own Barbie dolls of all sizes, ages, and colors.”

However, the decision to open up her own business was not an easy one. It was filled with uncertainty, tears, and most importantly, a great deal of faith. On Aug. 9, 2012, Kendrick and her husband visited the Atlanta Apparel Market for their first buying trip. Anxiously, Kendrick opened up her Jesus Calling devotional and on that particular day, garments of some sort were mentioned 11 times. “You can’t tell me that that was not God talking directly to me. I wasn’t scared after I read that. I knew we had this and most importantly, God had us,” she said.

“I feel like my health caused my door in the healthcare field to close, but because that door closed, God opened up this one. If you do what He has planned, and you give Him the glory, you will be successful,” Kendrick continued.

Kendrick has completely transformed the dynamic of the store over the past four years into not only a ladies clothing boutique, but her own ministry, often providing clothing for families struggling in the community.

“I look at myself and ask ‘Why am I so blessed and others are suffering?’ The least I can do is provide clothing for them,” she said.

The team of stylists at 4 Lynn’s Boutique make it their mission to ensure their customers are satisfied. “It’s our reputation to be honest to our customers. If something doesn’t look right, we’ll find something better suited for them. Not everybody is a size two. You have to work with people and highlight their good parts,” Kendrick said.

She continued, “If you’re honest with your customers, they’ll come back to you. I’ve always said that if you don’t love it, then don’t buy. Here, we won’t make you feel bad if you walk out of the store without purchasing anything.”

Kendrick stressed the importance of doing what you’re called to do by the Lord and doing that taskfully. “What I’m good at is dressing people, and if I can make a customer smile and be happy with something unique and special to add to their wardrobe, it’s so rewarding,” she said.

Accompanied by a comfortable setting and good ol’ southern-hospitality, 4 Lynn’s Boutique offers the latest trends in ladies fashion in the small town of Roxboro.

4-Lynn’s Boutique is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday’s from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m and can be reached by phone at 336.322.0435.
